In a recent incident reported by Waterloo Regional Police, a driver successfully thwarted an attempted carjacking in Kitchener. The event occurred around 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday in the vicinity of Heritage Drive and Lorraine Avenue.
According to authorities, the driver was inside their vehicle, warming it up, when an individual wearing a balaclava approached. The suspect forcibly opened the door and attempted to pull the driver out in order to steal the vehicle. However, the driver managed to resist and drove away safely. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5-foot-9, aged between 25 to 35 years old. He was reportedly wearing a dark grey jacket with a hood and a black balaclava.
Waterloo Regional Police are urging any witnesses or individuals with dash cam or surveillance footage from the area to come forward with information by contacting the authorities or Crime Stoppers.
This incident follows another carjacking reported earlier in the week in Kitchener. In that case, a 21-year-old Toronto man was assaulted by two males while sitting in his Mercedes at Montcalm Drive and Lorraine Avenue. The assailants then stole the vehicle, subsequently crashing it and fleeing the scene on foot.
