Waterloo Regional Police have charged a driver with stunt driving and careless driving after they were caught going 96 km/h in a 50 km/h zone in the Township of Wellesley.
In addition to the charges, the driver’s licence has been suspended for 30 days, and their vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.
“Road safety starts with you,” police emphasized in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The incident comes just days after police stopped two young drivers allegedly racing through Uptown Waterloo.
The drivers—an 18-year-old from Scarborough and a 19-year-old from Grey County—were each behind the wheel of a BMW when they were pulled over and charged with stunt driving and other offences.
At the time, police noted the area had a high volume of both pedestrian and vehicle traffic, although they did not specifically mention the nearby St. Patrick’s Day student street party zone.
These incidents have prompted renewed calls from police for drivers to exercise greater caution—especially in high-traffic urban areas and small-town roads where the unexpected can happen in seconds.
