Special Weather Statement: GRCA Issues Warning for Waterloo Region

Special Weather Statement: GRCA Issues Warning for Waterloo Region

A special weather statement has been issued for Waterloo Region, anticipating heavy rainfall in the coming days. According to Environment Canada, the rain is set to commence Wednesday night and persist until Saturday morning.

The most intense rainfall is forecasted for Thursday, extending into Thursday night. Furthermore, there’s a possibility of rain transitioning into snow on Friday night, continuing into Saturday morning. The expected total rainfall ranges between 25 to 45 mm.

Environment Canada cautions that heavy rain can lead to flash floods and water accumulation on roads, urging residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has also issued a statement, highlighting the potential for higher river flows in local waterways. This increase is attributed to a low-pressure weather system anticipated to bring significant rainfall to the region.

While the GRCA does not anticipate widespread flooding, there is a heightened risk in low-lying areas. River flows may remain elevated for several days, posing safety concerns around water bodies.

Residents are reminded to exercise caution near rivers and streams, as the banks can become slippery and hazardous. The special weather statement and associated warnings are expected to remain in effect until Friday, April 19.
