Students Return to Guelph School After Threat Prompts Evacuation

On Friday morning, Guelph Police responded to a threat at Waverley Drive Public School after a threatening message was found on the school’s answering machine. The message, received just after 8:30 a.m., prompted immediate action from authorities.

As a precautionary measure, both students and staff were evacuated and kept outside the school grounds. They were relocated to nearby École élémentaire L’Odyssée for safety.

In a statement, the Upper Grand District School Board reassured families, stating, “We have been sending messages to families throughout the morning letting them know that students are safe at L’Odyssée.” The Board further informed parents that those who wished to pick up their children were welcome to do so, as there was no estimated time for when students would be allowed back into the school.

Guelph Police, with assistance from the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s canine unit, conducted a thorough search of the school. Fortunately, nothing suspicious was discovered during the investigation.

By shortly after 12:30 p.m., students and staff were cleared to return to Waverley Public School, though the investigation into the threat remains ongoing.
