Waterloo Regional Police Association and Board Finalize New Five-Year Contract

Contract negotiations between the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board (WRPSB) and the Waterloo Regional Police Association (WRPA) concluded swiftly, resulting in new five-year collective agreements for both uniformed and civilian members.

Talks began in January and reached a tentative agreement by April 7. The finalized contracts, retroactive to January 1, 2025, will remain in effect until December 31, 2029.

Key elements of the agreement include:

  • Cost of living adjustments implemented throughout the contract term

  • Enhancements to health and wellness benefits

  • Commitments to review and modernize allowances, premiums, and related contract language

While the official press release did not disclose specific financial figures, both parties expressed confidence in the agreement’s outcomes.

WRPSB Chair Ian McLean stated, “These agreements provide necessary flexibility while respecting our financial responsibilities and ensuring competitive compensation to attract and retain the best for Waterloo Region.”

Police Chief Mark Crowell added, “These collective agreements recognize the vital contributions of our Uniform and Civilian members, ensuring the stability needed to continue delivering exceptional policing services that meet the evolving needs of our community.”
