Significant Weather Events Declared as Major Snowfall Approaches

Waterloo Region is bracing for another heavy bout of snowfall this weekend, prompting municipalities to take proactive measures to manage the conditions.

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the region, with officials preparing for significant accumulations. The Region of Waterloo has declared a significant weather event, set to take effect at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The City of Cambridge moved even earlier, issuing both a significant weather event and a snow event on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, the City of Waterloo has announced its declaration will come into effect at midnight on Saturday.

Parking Ban in Effect

To ensure efficient snow removal, on-street parking will be prohibited until the snow event is officially lifted. Drivers who ignore the ban risk being ticketed, towed, or both.

A statement from the City of Cambridge warns that road and sidewalk clearing may take longer than usual, urging residents to exercise caution when traveling.

Heavy Snowfall Expected

Forecasters predict a total snowfall of 20 to 40 cm by the end of the weekend—this comes on top of the 20 cm already received during a mid-week storm.

Residents are advised to stay informed, plan ahead, and take necessary precautions as municipalities work to manage the challenging conditions.
